The published of the game was Konami, well known today for the football simulator called Pro Evolution Soccer.

The game was a run and gun video game originally developed after a bunch of horror films from the 50s until the 80s. Zombies Ate My Neighbors, known as Zombies in Europe and Australia due to some censorship issues, is a popular game released in 1993 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System platforms. Passwords make the challenge easy to swallow, but you only get three lives. Moreover, the potential victims are usually surrounded by mind-bending, maze-like terrain. You start out with 10 suburbanites per level, but that per-level total drops every time a monster eats a victim.

On each level, you must save at least one member of a motley bunch of suburbanites, such as a Cheerleader, a Baby, and a Backyard Barbecuer, or the game's over. Strategy is also paramount, so you must learn to keep your head (and your other body parts) about you as the monsters continuously chase your tail.

In this game, the prize doesn't necessarily go to the quick fingered. You can also turn yourself into a temporary teenage werewolf, which enables you to bust down doors, break walls, and destroy all monsters. You can score temporary invincibility as the "Ghost Kid" or recharge your life meter. Destroying Snakeoids on Level 18 reveals Skeleton Keys.Don't panic! Save life- restoring First Aid Kits until you absolutely need them.As a teenage werewolf, you can do the same. Bazookas can blow through cracks in walls, bust through weak spots in hedges, and knock down doors. An easy-to-use inventory display enables you to quickly cycle through your cache of weapons and gear. A Bazooka is the only concession to Army Surplus freaks. Along the way you find Tomatoes, Soda Six-Packs, Crosses, and Clown Balloon Decoys. For instance, your standard side arm is an Uzi water gun, which squirts monster-zapping sprays of H20. They're mostly nonviolent objects, until you use them against monsters. Your characters are swift, and they can weave through the monstrous hordes with great open-field moves by using cutbacks and body fakes. The game's crisp controls enable you to stop and turn on a dime (or some slime). The pix and the sounds aren't the only things that make Zombies a winner. The old-fashion, melodramatic background music is campy, but catchy. Creepy creatures babble incoherently, werewolves howl ferociously, and your neighbors cut loose with horrific screams whenever they become Zombie feed. Only our two heroes have the power to get the mighty beastly spirit back into his book and stop the madness. If a Blob slimes you, you're damaged, but also temporarily Invincible. Vaporize garbage can ghosts and ninja spirits, rescue bug-eyed librarians and wigged-out pirates, dodge flying books and adolescent-eating plants! Terminate, with prejudice, using crossbows, ping-pong ball machine guns, Martian "Heatseeker" guns, and more.

Only you have the power to go back in time to de-spook an encyclopedia of zombified historic dudes. Now, this snarling phantom and his dastardly minions are infesting Metropolis and slithering their way into the history books, where they plan to rewrite history with their spooky ways. Suddenly, a horrific snaggle-toothed spirit emerges. Naturally, they cannot resist reading it. Zeke and Julie, our intrepid teenagers, visit the Ghosts and Ghouls exhibit at the city library, where they find an old treasure chest containing an ancient spirit book. Also grab power ups-o-rama like secret potions and bobo clown decoys. You can fend off the freaks with a virtual candy counter of weapons like uzi squirt guns, exploding soda pop, bazookas, weed wackers and ancient artifacts. Don't miss "Weird Kids on the Block", "Mars Needs Cheerleaders" and "Dances With Werewolves". Will these crazy kids survive the night? Find your way through 55 horror-filled levels like a grocery store gone bad, a shopping mall awry, a mysterious island and your own back yard. Who could put this SLICE of suburbia in such goose-pimply hysteria? Zombies, relentless Chainsaw Maniacs, Mummies, Evil Dolls that just won't die, Lizard Men, Blobs, Vampires, Giant Ants, Martians and more. What are Zeke and Julie, our two wholesome teenage stars doing in a 16-bit game like this?! Trying to save the nice neighbors, cheerleaders and babies from a fate worse than polyester!
